Brookside Rumble & Roll, sponsored by the Brookside Business Association, will be held on Thursday, June 4th from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. A motorcycle parade will travel from the Fairgrounds, 15th street to Peoria Avenue, to Brookside. The parade starts at 7 p.m.

Organizers expect about 5,000 people this year to come out and enjoy the food, drinks, and live music. The event raises money for Make-A-Wish Foundation of Oklahoma. 

Peoria Ave will be closed from 3 p.m. until 11 p.m. for set-up and clean-up. Through traffic should avoid this area. 

Be courteous to those who live in Brookside.

Do not litter, respect private property, and observe noise ordinances.

District 9 Councilor G T Bynum, Tulsa’s “Bark Park Task Force” and the Brookside Neighborhood Association will conduct a public meeting to listen to citizens’ comments about a possible Off Leash “Bark Park” in Zink Park which is south and west of the corner of Trenton Avenue and 31st Street. 

The meeting will be held at All Souls Unitarian Church, 2952 South Peoria Avenue on Tuesday, May 5. The doors will open at 5:30 p.m. and the public comment session will begin at 6 p.m. Please attend and give your thoughts on this issue. 

Public funds are not used to establish or manage any “Bark Parks ” in Tulsa, so all funds necessary to create a Zink Bark Park must be raised privately. The Tulsa Beautification Foundation has offered to contribute $1 for every $2 which others contribute or pledge and one resident of the Zink Park neighborhood has pledged $5,000.  Of course interested people will be asked to make tax deductible contributions and pledges if there is a consensus of neighbors that such a facility is desired.

It appears that a major destructive chainsaw attack has been unleashed on our city parks. It seems that some city employees have found money to take down healthy trees in our parks at a time when our parks are not adequately funded. The email cites 4 examples which I happened to see. I did not go looking for these or other similar problems. You can help me help Mayor Taylor and other city leaders by trying to estimate the extent of the problem. The third Land Use Communication Task Force meeting is an open meeting and we encourage anyone interested in neighborhood property issues to attend.

Julie Hall, a neighborhood leader and president of Who Owns Tulsa, will be delivering a power point presentation on the success and failures of communication about development projects from the resident property owners’ point of view.

Projects to be discussed will include the Sonoma Grande project at 81st and Mingo, the Bomosada apartment project at 39th and Rockford and a single residence’s stormwater problems at 22nd and Lewis, among others.

We encourage everyone to attend this meeting or send a representative from your Homeowner’s Association. This is an excellent opportunity to show the city that its’ residents care about compatible, smart infill development. Comments will be taken from the attendees. Please forward this email along. What: Task Force on Land Use Communications Meeting

When: April 6th, at 5:30 p.m.

Where: City Hall,  4th Floor

The City of Tulsa invites the public to attend an information meeting concerning construction of a street improvement and 12-inch waterline replacement project on South Lewis Avenue between East 31st Street and East 41st Street, and on East 41st Street between Riverside Drive and South Lewis Avenue. Funding for this project has come from the 2005 Bond Issue.

The meeting will be held Monday, April 6, at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium of Wright Elementary School, 1110 E 45th Pl. Representative from Public Works Engineering Services will show construction plans for the project and answer question. The contractor, Becco Contractors Inc., will be introduced at the meeting.

Construction of this $4.9 million project will begin during the 10 days following April 3. The contractor will begin work on Lewis Avenue between 31st Street and 41st Street, and will complete it in approximately one year. After construction on Lewis Avenue, Construction on 41st Street is schedules for completion in February 2011.

WHAT: City of Tulsa Informational Meeting, Waterline Construction

It happens all the time in neighborhoods throughout Tulsa: the dreaded PUD or zoning change proposal…

Neighbors may notice the yellow signs, but the legal jargon serves only to obfuscate. Online searches result in little or no information. TMAPC? BOA? PUD? Huh? Developers hire lawyers to help them interpret the zoning code and navigate the approval process, while average citizens lack the resources to obtain equal representation. Two-weeks notice leaves little time to educate people and understand what’s going on. Neighborhood activists rally, but their last-minute opposition is seen as obstructionist and anti-development. The PUD is approved by the TMAPC, and waltzes through the City Council.

Sound familiar? Unfortunately for many Tulsans, it does.

That’s why the “Land Use Education and Communication Task Force” has been created. Their mission? “To review and recommend revamped processes for education and communication regarding city land use processes.”

The meetings of the Land Use Task Force are open to the public, and public input is welcomed. If you have constructive ideas for improving the way zoning issues and development proposals are handled, be sure to show up and speak out.

Hello all,

     The City Council once more discussed the proposed Community Garden ordinance at yesterday’s committee meeting. After another fairly lengthy discussion they decided to set it for public hearing at their 3.12.09 City Council meeting.

     Take note of the change in date. I originally communicated the prospect that it would be heard tomorrow, 3.5.09. The Council attorney wanted one additional week to look into a state statute that might be related to the proposal. While the Council will conduct a first reading tomorrow they will not take public comment.

     I’m sorry for the short notice however this change provides one additional week to provide communication with your Councilor if you have comments you wish to convey and the change will also permit you additional time to make arrangements to attend the Council hearing.

     The City Council meets on Thursday, March 12, 2009 at 6:00pm at City Hall (One Technology Center) at 175 E. 2nd St. (NW/c of 2nd and S. Cincinnati Av.) on the 2nd level (level of public entrance from 2nd St.).

     The City Council wants to hear from their constituents regarding the proposal.

     Again, I would encourage each of you to take an opportunity to contact the City Council to provide your input.      The Council may benefit from hearing from as many constituents and stakeholders as possible regarding the proposal.
